dreamless sleep (i)

The crescent moon averts her eyes
Solitude’s fragmented grace
My body doesn’t belong to me
But it comes back eventually
Drifts across this vacant plot
To rest unhindered
What purpose can arouse me
Patience undeterred for
Listless longing contemplates
I want for nothing
We live to pollenate the trees

performative anguish

I dreamt of cutting you out from myself
And pray you do the same to my remnants left behind
Our melismatic cry could rattle the heavens
Stacking thirds for the dirge of my life
No end in sight for cyclic loss
A cadence enriched with each passing phase
Perpetual returns to this jolted state, stomach pitted
Reclining into a familiar gulf with eyelids dragging
Ceaselessly, cut me loose

A chevron of lights
Arranged in a cross against the back wall
Refracted in their full spectral radiance
I’m grasping to capture, to envelop a transience
To clasp a purity
Which cannot be rendered in any meaningful way
Nothing has meaning anymore
My act of living, no longer performed
Self-consciously
We’re tethered at blinding heights
Mechanised against an impulse
To run aground beached and broken

wakeless crest (ii)
03:25
|

Comfort, safety
Circling the drain
Has it been a year already
Hollowed out and silent
Assembling a picture of myself
From an anxious reminiscent glance

I’ve got to scratch my heart into stone
Before it slips away
When my jaw hangs slack and this tongue
Breaks off straining to touch meaning
Alight with me to
Our darkened stairwell
Another hour our hearts at rest
In a fugue state
Or your true self

You don’t see the frames surrounding
Every aspect of your life
Self-contained outcomes and fragmented episodes
Preserved in their perfect aspects
Archived in aspic
Sunk beneath a sightline
Languid, diffuse
Eyes met, darting, informing
A decade of changes
Reins taken without consideration
Almost together
Almost embracing
